Getting Started
Your first task is to get Visage running on your
machine. Some of the exact details may be implementation-dependent,
so you may need to ask your system administrator or someone familiar
with Visage for help.
From Unix, start Visage by typing the following command:
visage The About Visage window will be displayed. Initially, Visage does a lot of internal processing that may take a while to complete. A status bar in the middle of this window graphically illustrates this processing.
Once Visage is ready, click the New button
in the lower left of the window: ![]()
The Choose Workspace Template window will
open. The files in the file list box on the right are configuration
files that describe Visage desktop layouts.
![]()
The Configure Workspace window will appear.
![]()
Visage will display a new workspace that will look
something like:
![]()
This workspace is a Visage frame; frames act
as containers in Visage. They can hold data elements, control
panels, and even other frames.
The next section of the tutorial provides an overview
of the basic frame operations in Visage.
