Returning to the concept list in column 1, we can select a unit and drill down another level (53rd MECHANIZED) also by echelon, revealing a number of additional subordinate units. Note that the cell entries for echelon and total supply weight are automatically displayed without additional user action.
The user may freely drag information from the outliner to other frames. These other frames organize and display the data in different ways. Here, in order to display information graphically, we drag a selected set of units from the outliner to a plot frame that displays data objects as a bar graph. This graph shows the supply weight of each unit. Direct manipulation is an important aspect of the information-centric approach: elements representing information can be moved in groups or individually across application interfaces.
